Bronze Medal Match - St Kitts & Nevis v Antigua & Barbuda
26 September 2010, Road Town, Tortola, British Virgin Islands.-
In the fight for the bronze medal in the ECVA Men's Volleyball
Championships, the Antiguans came out and drew first blood,
winning the first set 25 – 20. Their attack proved a bit hard
for the St Kitts team to handle but St Kitts beefed up their
blocks in the second set and came back to win that 23 – 25. St
Kitts also took the third set 22 – 25. The fourth set was
incredibly exciting with the teams fighting point for point,
block for block and spike for spike. In the end it was St Kitts
who came out on top winning the fourth set 27 – 25 with a
fantastic spike from #13 Shawn Seabrookes.
Coach for St Kitts, Glenn Quinlan stated "It was difficult to
get emotionally hyped for the event and in the end it was just a
mater of persevering. Even though we had a few injuries that
took us out of the preferred rotation, the guys on the court
were able to provide the fortitude and we overcame."
In speaking with the Antiguan Coach Orson James, he
congratulated the St Kitts team.
"They put up a good fight and I guess the deserved to win. My
team is a bit undermanned due to circumstances of players not
getting time off from work and tonight we saw it again because
those not here were missed dearly. The team has worked really
hard to be here in the bronze medal match and unfortunately we
lost but next year we will be coming back stronger and better." |
